Keynote Day 1: Ross Mahon

Ross as been working for Google for 4.5 years and is responsible for driving Google’s Edu community engagement across Europe,Middle East and Africa. At Google, he believes leading-edge technologies will play a vital role in helping equip future generations with the skills they need to thrive in the workforce of today and tomorrow. Education initiatives focus on three key areas:
  • Making learning magical
  • Empowering innovative communities
  • Building a foundation of technology and access
Today his role is primarily focused on promoting sustainable adoption and usage of Google Apps for Education within both the schools and higher education sectors, this also includes other new and exciting Google offerings such as Chromebooks, Google Drive and Google+.

Keynote Day 2: Jim Sill

After almost a decade in the video and television industry, Jim Sill hung up his producer hat and 
embarked on a career in education. Using his industry experience, he created an award winning video production program at El Diamante High Schoolin Visalia, CA. By involving students in real world video projects, they garnered awards and recognition at the local, state, and national level. With experience producing local television and industrial videos for non-profit organizations, many of his former students now work in the industry.

As a Google Certified Teacher, Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Apps Certified Trainer and Apple Certified Trainer, Jim leads professional development workshops on Google’s collaborative tools, social media, and video production.  In addition to consulting for educational institutions around the world, Jim consults for his wife in her 5th grade classroom. 

In 2012, Jim was featured in Edutopia and their Teach2Learn series for his work in Building Career Skills in Video Production. He was also awarded The Computer Using Educator (CUE) Outstanding Teacher Award in 2009 and nominated for the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Outstanding Teacher Award.

Day 1 Featured Speaker: Dr. John Bailey

Dr. John Bailey is a British-born, US-trained volcanologist and neogeographer. He is an Assistant Profe

ssor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks where he currently splits his time between working as a geovisualization specialist for a climate change research group and teaching for the Geography department. He developed the first US-university accredited, full semester class to teach how Google Earth, Keyhole Markup Language (KML), and related applications can be used to augment education and research. He has since organized some of the most popular sessions and workshops at American Geophysical Union (AGU) and Geological Society of America (GSA) meetings, two of the world’s largest annual gatherings of Earth Science educators and researchers.

He has also been an invited speaker at numerous conferences, universities and at Google’s Mountain View HQ. Since 2006, John has worked closely with the Google Geo and Education teams to instruct educators of all levels, in the US and round the world, in the use of Google Geo Applications. John’s goal is to promote understanding of the Earth, and the processes shaping it’s surface, through the use of innovative technologies. He loves to travel and explore new places and landscapes for himself, and to teach people how they can use Google Geo Apps to understand the planet we live on.

Cindy Crannell

Cindy Crannell is currently an Elementary Technology Coach at the American School of Dubai. Originally from Chicago, she completed her undergraduate degree from Hope College in Holland Michigan, has her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from  The University of Minnesota and an Educational Technology Certificate from Michigan State University. Having been an Elementary classroom teacher for many years, now she enjoys empowering teachers and students to teach and learn through technology. Recently, she became a Google Certified Teacher in 2012 and is currently working on becoming a Google Certifie

d Trainer.  In the 2011/ 2012 school year she launched over 80 ipod touches in the Elementary school and this year is excited to have the opportunity to do the same with ipads.  Over the last two years she launched and successfully implemented a 2:1 Macbook program in the fifth grade into 6 classrooms.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family traveling the world, as she has lived outside the U.S. since 2006.

Warren Dale

Warren Dale is an educational innovator who focus is the assimilation of technology into the classroom. His passion is to see classroom instruction advance at the speed of learning. 

He was selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator, elected president of CUELA (Computer Using Educators of Los Angeles) and has served as a frequent presenter of hands-on workshops and cutting edge technology sessions at annual conferences of Computer Using Educators,California Association of Bilingual Educators, the California League of Schools, The National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform and the Florida Educational Technology Conference. Since 1981 he worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District teaching all levels of math and implementing cutting-edge instructional technology. He attributes his success as a tech facilitator and presenter to a combination of love for our youth, an undying curiosity for all things technology, and a tireless patience with teachers (and administrators!) who want to learn how those kids and that technology can work together!

Daniel Mendes

Daniel Mendes comes from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and has taught in Russia, South Africa and UAE over the past 8 years.

His passion for Educational technology began in University and was selected to become a provincial tech leader in the 'Telus to learn' initiative.  
Daniel is the K-12 Technology Coordinator at the American School of Dubai and has completed the requirements to become a Google Apps for Education Certified Trainer.

Renee Williams

Renee Williams a Google Certified Teacher from GTA New York 2012 and is currently a Technology Integration Coach at the American School of Dubai’s Elementary School. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Renee has her Masters in special education, an Educational Leadership Certificate through Buffalo State, and is currently working towards her E-Learning Certificate through Wisconsin/Stout. Having been a classroom and special education teacher for many years, she now enjoys working with others in designing meaningful ways to link the ever-changing technologies to the core curriculum. This last fall, she attended the Google Teacher Academy in New York and co-presented at the first Google Teacher Summit this last July in Santa Clara. She is also a charter member of Tokyo’s chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, a member of Computer-Using Educators, has taught courses in educational assessment for Seattle University, and in her ‘spare’ time has traveled to over 80 countries.
